I decided to use the split stitch with 4 strands for my border. It may not be obvious because of my wonky stitching but I tried the star stitch (The Embroidery Stitch Bible #44 page 72). I am not sure if I will re-work this square and add two more star stitches.
I really like your stitching and the button is perfect.
